History & Governance
Our History
The Marshall P. Riddick Youth Center has been a cornerstone of the Overland community since its establishment in 1945. Named in honor of Marshall P. Riddick, a former Overland Elementary school student, who was killed in a WW2 training accident. The center was founded with a commitment to providing a safe, nurturing environment for school-age children and families in the Overland Avenue area.
For over 80 years, the center has served as a gathering place for youth organizations including the Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles, and numerous community groups. The building at 2634 Overland Avenue has hosted generations of children, community events, and civic gatherings.
The center operates as a 501(c)(3), 509(a)(2) non-profit organization, dedicated to maintaining and operating the facility for the benefit of the surrounding community. Its longevity is a testament to the dedication of volunteers, donors, and community partners who have supported its mission across the decades.
